Grade Ten Drawing and Painting is a fun course that builds upon the general skills and media presented in AVI 1O0 (Grade Nine Visual Arts). This is a focus course that allows students to develop their drawing and painting skills to a higher degree. So, get ready to explore, take risks, be creative and have fun! Unit 1: Drawing and Self-Portraiture
This initial toning unit will develop your toning skills with graphite and toning/blending with pencil crayons. There are several sketchbook assignments that introduce the techniques and allow you to experiment with them before applying the skills in two projects; one smaller mini drawing in pencil crayon and the main graphite drawing.

Unit 2: Surrealism and Acrylic
In this unit we are going to experiment with Surrealism and Acrylic paint. The general principles of Surrealism will be presented and each student will experiment and apply them in a variety of contexts. Students will learn how to develop a strong composition. And finally, how to apply Acrylic paint using a layered dry-brush technique. Unit 3: Pen/Ink & Body Art
The graphic quality of pen and ink is distinctive and looks highly complex. We will combine pen and ink techniques with various cultural adornment traditions from across time and the world.
