And it Begins with Three... Have you ever wondered how many different yarns you can spin using just three colours? A triad of colours is a great way to experiment with yarn design. You will learn to design and spin yarns using an assortment of simple fibre preparations, spinning variations and plying methods. Spinning Textured Cable Yarns Cabled yarns have a natural drape and elegance that make them absolutely lovely to use in a variety of textile constructions. In this workshop, we will use the cabled yarn structure as a starting point for yarn design. Then, you will learn to manipulate twist and texture in your spinning through fibre preparation, spinning variations and plying methods based on the simple cabled yarn. Off the Beaten Path: Discovering the Camelids Our adventure begins by meeting the diverse fibre-bearing animals that make up the camelid family. In this workshop we will examine the different characteristics of these luxury fibres as we travel from the New World to the Old World. You will explore different fibre preparations, blends, spinning approaches and finishing methods to create a variety of beautiful handspun yarns. Come prepared to spin off the beaten path as we learn about the rich, historical and cultural roles this family of animals played for centuries and as their journey continues onwards! |
Space-Dyed Rovings: You have a beautiful space-dyed roving, but now, what do you do with it? Spaced-dyed rovings are visually attractive and alluring, and it may seem as though there is only one way to spin them. This is most definitely NOT the case! Rather, space-dyed rovings are a starting point that offer spinners a multitude of options. This hands-on spinning workshop will examine how different approaches can result in a variety of different yarns from multi-coloured rovings. |
Spinning Paper Threads For centuries, washi, Japanese paper, has been extremely important in many aspects of life. Through resourcefulness and need, it was discovered that washi could also be spun and made into fabric. In this workshop you will learn how to make paper threads from many different papers that can be used in a variety of textile constructions. |
