Welcome to AWM 3M0!

Grade Eleven Drawing and Painting builds upon the extensive skills and media presented in AWM 2O0 and/or AVI 2O0.  In this focus course students will continue to intensively develop their drawing and painting skills.   Students who take both AWM 3M0 and AVI 3M0 will have a strong foundation for AWM 4M0 and AVI 4M0.  So,  get ready to explore, take risks, be creative and have fun!  Please refer to my Home page to see the other Common Documents relevant for this class.

Unit 1:  Self-Portraiture & Acrylic Paint

This initial unit presents several different acrylic painting techniques.  Each student will create a variety of samples for their sketchbooks that they will then analysis each technique and reflect upon the process.  Students will use create a Duel Self-Portrait painting that reveals some aspect of their personality using acrylic paint.  Please find below a list of formative assignments (building block skill development sketchbook assignments) along with the summative assignments (projects) and response journal/evaluations.
  • Alla Prima + Stippling, Undercoat, Gel Medium & Dry Brush (demo, sketchbook sample, description + analysis/reflection)
  • Earth Tones, Complimentary Colours & Neutral Black (demo, sketchbook sample, description + analysis/reflection)
  • Self-Portrait Introduction (discussion + slideshow)
  • Portrait Research (analysis + sketchbook component)
  • Composition (note, discussion + sketchbook component)
  • Three Thumbnail Drawings (Duel Self-Portrait assignment in sketchbook)
  • Duel Self-Portrait + Reflection/Evaluation

Unit 2: Anatomy & Graphite 

This unit examines the relationship between proportion, anatomy and foreshortening with the medium of graphite.  Please find below a list of formative assignments (building block skill development sketchbook assignments) along with the summative assignments (projects) and response journal/evaluations.
  • Life Drawing (demo + application)

Unit 3:  Perspective Drawing & Watercolour Painting

Students will use perspective and develop a complex line drawing.  A portion of the drawing with then be used as the composition to create a watercolour painting.  Please find below a list of formative assignments (building block skill development sketchbook assignments) along with the summative assignments (projects) and response journal/evaluations.
